He served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Don returned and married Connie Geiersbach in Utica, NY, on March 3, 1979. He was involved in his community and was an advocate for Veterans. He was a member and past Commander of the Granville American Legion Post 323. He coached Little League and youth sports. Don's passion for golf was second to none. He was a member of Lake St. Catherine Country Club, where he had many close friends. He won the Club Championship multiple times.
Don was known for his humor and big heart. He made friends easily. He loved his family and friends immensely. He was always the life of the party, often seen playing an air guitar. He loved music and especially loved live rock music. He was also a huge Mets fan and has his own brick at Citi Field.
In 2015 Don was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He fought the cancer bravely for years while simultaneously dealing with other painful health conditions including Trigeminal Neuralgia and Spinal Stenosis. Don's heart and spirit were always on full display where ever the battle took him. His infectious energy and positivity impressed his doctors and nurses. He made friends anywhere and everywhere and was open about his diagnosis to his friends and family, urging awareness. He wore his F*CK Cancer T-shirt and advocated for others to get screened for prostate cancer. His treatments brought him from New York's Memorial Sloan Kettering to Albany's VA Hospital to Glens Falls C.R. Wood Cancer Center. We have countless stories about Dad's inspiring fight. His journey was filled with highs and lows but most importantly courage and love.
He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Don wanted us to continue his fight. He wanted us to help others that are still battling and that is why we've started this fund. We also want to honor Don's life and celebrate him. Those who met him know how unique and fun he was. We're going to have an annual Golf Tournament to not only raise money but to also celebrate Don and the impact he's had on all of our lives.
We love you Dad!!
